FINANCIAL DISTRICT — Immerse yourself in 17th century Vienna, without leaving Manhattan or having to time travel with a New York Classical Theatre production this weekend.

The troupe is performing Shakespeare's "Measure for Measure," — a tale of intrigue, lust and love, set in a Vienna that's bitterly divided by high morals and greed — in The Battery, Friday through Sunday evenings.

The group, which has been performing since 2000, is known for its interactive style of theater. The outdoor, free performances of the Bard's work, usually involve some running around for the cast and the audience.

"What we do is theater for the people," said Stephen Burdman, the troupe's artistic director, in a video about the energetic performances. "There are no lines to wait in, there are no tickets to get."

"It's all free and accessible — it's really a New York event, it's for everybody," he said.

For shows at The Battery, the audience is asked to meet at Castle Clinton at 7 p.m. From there, the play will take attendees through The Battery's picturesque greenery.

The theater group has performed more than 500 shows over the years, mainly in The Battery, as well as in Central Park, Governors Island and inside Brookfield Place's Winter Garden atrium.

Next week, the troupe will take the show to Brooklyn Bridge Park.

For more information, head to the group's website.

Measure for Measure will be performed Aug. 7 through the 9 at The Battery and at Brooklyn Bridge Park on Aug. 11, 12 and the 14 through 16, from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.
