ASTORIA — A pair of store employees who were headed to the bank to deposit money from their shop chased down a robber who stole the cash, and got it back, police said.

Police say the victim, a 25-year-old woman, was walking with her co-worker along Steinway Street near 30th Avenue on July 6 to a bank to deposit proceeds from the store, when the suspect approached and snatched the bag of cash.

The co-worker then chased after the bandit and was able to take back the money, according to police. The suspect fled empty-handed.

It was unclear what store the victims were coming from.

Police could not provide a time for the incident, or a further description of the suspect, but a surveillance image of the robber shows a person wearing sweatpants and a dark Nike sweatshirt with the hood up.

Anyone with information is asked to call the NYPD's Crime Stoppers Hotline at 800-577-TIPS.
