BROOKLYN — A huge sinkhole opened in a Sunset Park intersection Tuesday morning, swallowing part of the road and causing traffic upheaval, officials said.
The asphalt gave way to the 20-foot deep and 20-foot wide hole at the intersection of Fifth Avenue and 64th Street about 7:30 a.m., according to the FDNY.

It was not immediately clear what caused the road to collapse or when it would be repaired.
Department of Environmental Protection crews will fill the hole when it's deemed safe to do so, according to FDNY spokesman Jim Long.
"They're going to try and secure the hole by backfilling it so they can continue to work on it," Long said.

Manhattan-bound N trains were also delayed because as crews worked to repair the hole, officials said.
"They're slowing the trains down in case of vibrations," Long said.
