UPPER EAST SIDE — A new dentist office specializing in teeth whitening offers "spa-like" suites decked with flat-screens showing HBO and noise-cancelling headphones so clients can tune out the noise from their routine cleanings.

Lavaan, opening at 1196 Lexington Ave. between East 81st and 82nd streets in September or October, promises to create the airy, chic aesthetic of a salon or spa, with all the trappings to distract their clients while they get their teeth cleaned, said Dr. Jeffrey Rappaport, who co-owns the practice with Dr. Michelle Katz.

Along with their routine cleanings and whitenings, which range in cost from $89 to $450, customers will be given a set of headphones which they can use to watch their favorite show on HBO, Rappaport said.

Lavaan opened its first outpost with similar features in Greenwich Village in May 2012.

"We have a loyal customer base that visit our downtown location from all over the city, but it seemed like a natural next step to open the second location uptown," Rappaport said. "We wanted a presence on the Upper East Side to make it as convenient and time-efficient as possible for residents to get their dental services with us."

The office — which does cleanings, whitenings and orthodontic care exclusively — also offers in-home whitening sessions, Rappaport said.

The house visits are by appointment only, and pricing depends on what services are agreed upon during a consultation with the dentist. Those who sign up for the house visits get a voucher for a free cleaning, he added.

Dr. Rappaport and Dr. Katz, who graduated from New York University's Dental School in 2008 opened their first Lavaan after noticing there was a market for a dentist office where patients could get preferential treatment without the stress and hassle of a traditional dental appointment, Rappaport said.

Dr. Katz is also an orthodontist who was board certified by the Jacksonville University School of Orthodontics.

Hours for the new office, which is still under construction, will be similar to their Greenwich Village office: 9:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday, and 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturdays.
