EMERSON HILL — A woman was injured after she was hit by her runaway car which then crashed into the home of a lawyer who represented a co-conspirator in the Boston Marathon bombing case, officials and neighbors said.
The woman's Mercedes — which had been parked in her driveway — rolled backwards across the street and crashed into a stone wall beside Arkady Bukh's home at 9 Dianas Trail, in Staten Island, at about 9:12 a.m. Monday, a spokeswoman for the FDNY and Bukh said.
It ran over the owner's legs before it crashed, Bukh said.
"She was screaming, 'I'm trying to stop the car,'" Bukh said.
"It was awful," said Bukh's wife, Marina Gafanovich, who said their housekeeper pulled the woman out from under the car.
The woman was taken to Staten Island University Hospital North with leg injuries, the FDNY said.
Bukh works as a criminal defense attorney and recently represented Azamat Tazhayakov, a friend of Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, who was convicted of co-conspiracy after he threw away Tsarnaev's backpack containing evidence in the Boston Marathon bombing case.
