WEST VILLAGE — A man broke into a woman's West Village apartment and groped her as she slept, police said.

The intruder broke into an apartment building near West 10th Street and Hudson Street about 5:10 a.m. on July 30, police said.

Police said the man entered the building through the front door, then went to the back of the building and climbed the fire escape and broke into a second-floor apartment.

He then groped a sleeping 43-year-old woman, police said.

When the woman woke up, the intruder fled, police said.

Police described the suspect as a balding man who was last seen bare-chested, wearing black sneakers, black jeans and a white T-shirt.

The NYPD asks that anyone with information call the Crime Stoppers Hotline at 800-577-TIPS.
