
LOWER EAST SIDE — A man was struck from behind and pushed to the ground as he chased a thief who snatched his gold iPhone 6 Plus over the weekend, police said.
The 37-year-old victim was using his cell phone while sitting on a bench at Catherine Slip and South Street when a man grabbed the phone out of his hand and ran away at around 2:20 p.m. on July 26, according to the NYPD.
Police said the victim then ran after thief, eventually catching up to him and recovering his phone, but another man punched him from behind and pushed him to the ground. The victim also lost his eyeglasses, police said.
Police said the suspects fled westbound on Catherine Slip before making a left turn on Water Street and entering the nearby Alfred E. Smith Houses.

► Two men knocked a 51-year-old man to the ground while he was riding a Citi Bike in the vicinity of Catherine Slip and South Street around 9:15 p.m. on July 20, police said, causing injuries in his head and left elbow.
The suspects then removed the bicycle and took the victim’s Sony Xperia cellphone and his wallet, according to the NYPD. Four suspects were later spotted using the victim’s credit cards at various locations, including a McDonald’s located at 52 Fulton St.
