CHELSEA — Serious sushi joint Ushiwakamaru will open its doors on West 23rd Street next week, according to Hideo Kuribara, chef-owner of the resurrected restaurant.
Formerly located on Houston Street, the beloved spot closed in January after a rent hike, Eater reported.
Ushiwakamaru relocated to 362 W. 23rd St. near Ninth Avenue and will be open by Friday, August 7, Kuribara said. He expects construction to have wrapped up by next Tuesday.
Kuribara said he will serve pretty much the same menu as at the old location: traditional sushi, including an omakase-style chef’s selection menu. About 80 percent of the fish Kuribara serves is brought over from Japan, he said.
