CROWN HEIGHTS — A new bagel shop with a big menu and lots of fans is coming to a long-empty storefront on Franklin Avenue, its owners announced this week.
Bagel Pub, a Park Slope-based eatery voted the best bagel in Brooklyn by Time Out New York last month, is opening its second location at 775 Franklin Ave. and St. Johns Place by the end of the summer, according to the husband-and-wife team who opened their original shop at Ninth Street near Fifth Avenue three years ago.
Though the eatery’s focus is bagels (with 20 different flavors of cream cheese to choose from) their menu has a huge list of other items, including smoothies, soups, paninis, wraps and 53 specialty sandwiches.
The pair is currently hiring between eight and 10 people to work as cashiers, kitchen staff and grill and deli operators, they said, advertising the open positions on a banner hung on the empty storefront this week.
Eagle-eyed residents on Brooklynian.com first spotted the change, which is coming to the long-empty storefront more than two years after its former tenant, the clothing store Climax, moved out.
The shop will have limited seating inside and will function mostly as a grab-and-go operation, Bagel Pub's owners said. In the future, the pair is looking to put sidewalk seating out front and hopes to install bike racks on the avenue, as well.
