TOMPKINSVILLE — The city launched its second food pantry on Monday that aims to get residents on probation eating healthier.
The Department of Probation opened the city's second Neighborhood Opportunity Network (NeON) Nutrition Kitchen at 340 Bay St. which distributes food to clients once a week and will host cooking demonstrations, give out nutritional information and healthy recipes.
“Our goal is to assist our clients with overcoming barriers like hunger in an effort to create a successful and productive life for those transitioning from the justice system," DOP Commissioner Ana Bermúdez said in a statement.
The kitchen, which first launched last week in The Bronx, will partner with local chefs and nutrition experts to help people eat healthier in underserved neighborhoods, the DOP said.
The city plans to open up NeON Nutrition Kitchens in every borough in the city.
