UPPER WEST SIDE — A new beer hall specializing in craft brews — with 20 varieties on draft and another 46 in bottles and cans — opened earlier this month.

West End Hall debuted on Broadway at West 106th Street in the space formerly occupied by Five Lamps Tavern

Like Five Lamps, the beer hall is utilizing its outdoor backyard space to seat between 60 and 70 people, said manager Janice Weaver.

The backyard will eventually have its own bar where people can order drinks, she said.

Initially, co-owner Karim El Sherif of KES Hospitality told the community that he was considering adding a glass enclosure over the backyard to muffle noise, after residents complained about the previous restaurant. Currently, the backyard space is open to the sky with a few umbrellas at tables.

The venue is also co-owned by The Lure Group, which owns Clinton Hall, a Downtown beer hall with a similar vibe and decor, among other venues.

West End Hall's larger interior space has long communal tables that can host roughly 60 people, as well as 15 seats at the bar.

The decor is "modern" and "industrial" with wooden tables and benches, a marble bar and TVs that are hidden under glass panels, Weaver explained.

The four TVs are there for sports fans, but they're partially obscured because the owners didn't want the spot to scream "sports bar," she said.

There's also a projector that comes down from the ceiling for major televised events, Weaver said.

In addition to its emphasis on beer, West End Hall serves cocktails and wine, as well as offering a dinner and snacks menu.

The menu features two sections devoted to hot dogs and international sausages, but also includes lighter fare, including a mixed field greens salad or fish tacos.

West End Hall is currently open from 4 p.m. to 2 a.m. Monday through Wednesday, until 3 a.m. on Thursday, Friday and Saturday and until 1 a.m. on Sunday. The restaurant eventually hopes to expand its hours to offer lunch as well.
