HELL’S KITCHEN — A new restaurant and bar called "Tipsy Girl" hopes to live up to its name by offering an all-day happy hour at its new home on Ninth Avenue.
Co-owners Peter Guimaraes and Piermario Del Rosso teamed up to launch the venue at 714 Ninth Ave., near West 49th Street, and are aiming to open the first week of October.
Guimaraes, who is creating his own Tipsy Girl brand Chardonnay, prosecco and vodka, said he will offer a daylong happy hour on “a lot of signature cocktails.”
Tipsy Girl has filed an application for a liquor license with Community Board 4, in which they're planning to be open from 11 a.m. to 2 a.m., seven days a week.
The name Tipsy Girl is meant to convey the pleasures of drinking, as well as the pleasures of romance, Guimaraes said.
“Tipsy Girl is a feeling of euphoria,” Guimaraes said, explaining the restaurant’s name. “People think tipsy is when you drink wine, but that’s also when you’re in love.
“Everyone thinks it’s a really cool, fun name and they’re surprised it hasn’t been trademarked yet,” Guimaraes added. “People don’t drink because it’s loaded with vitamin C and antioxidants,” he said. “People go out because they want to have a feeling of euphoria.”
The venue will serve Italian classics from the menu of Del Rosso's now-shuttered Midtown eatery Bice, which closed in 2013, Guimaraes told DNAinfo.
The menu will offer Bice standards like chitarrucci alla Bolognese and veal and spinach ravioli.
Bice opened in Milan in 1926 and is still open there, Guimaraes said. Its second location opened on East 54th Street in 1972. and now has 30 locations worldwide, from Dubai to Palm Beach. Guimaraes said a new Bice location will reopen in midtown in 2016.
The East Side Bice was known for expensive delicacies like fettuccine with truffles, but Tipsy Girl will be “somewhere everybody can eat,” said Guimaraes, who added that he will be featured on Season 7 of the "Real Housewives of New York City."
