EAST WILLIAMSBURG — A man was arrested in East Williamsburg last week after threatening police officers with a screwdriver and punching one while resisting arrest, according to police and the Brooklyn District Attorney's office.

Police responded to a call on Meserole Street near Bushwick Avenue on Saturday, July 11 at about 10:20 a.m., where they found Juan Flores, 42, trying to break into a 2009 Volkswagen by putting a screwdriver in the key hole, according to police and a criminal complaint.

When police approached Flores to arrest him, he tried to hit an officer and a witness with the screwdriver, officials said.

He then refused to be handcuffed and punched the police officer and a witness in the head, causing pain and injuries at the scene, police and a criminal complaint said.

Flores was hit with more than a dozen charges, including attempted aggravated assault of a police officer, criminal possession of a weapon, harassment and assault in the second and third degree.

His bail was set at $15,000 bond/$7,500 cash. His attorney could not immediately be reached.
