FINANCIAL DISTRICT — A man shoplifting about $158 worth of lipstick, lip liners and stick-on nails from a Financial District Duane Reade tried to punch an NYPD detective in the kisser, police said.
The detective saw 28-year-old Anthony Homoui stealing the small beauty products, placing items in the pockets of his cargo shorts pockets, via a video-surveillance feed at the 67 Broad St. shop on July 7, at about 10:00 p.m., police said.
When the detective confronted Homoui, and identified himself as law enforcement, the shoplifter took off running, but each time the officer caught up to the suspect, he'd start throwing punches at the detective, according to a complaint from the Manhattan District Attorney's office.
According to a police report, the officer was finally able to get Homoui on the ground after about two blocks of chase, though Homoui kept "flailing" to resist arrest.
Homoui was initially charged with third degree robbery, but ended up pleading guilty to petit larceny and is serving 45 days in jail, according to the DA's office and court records.
