ASTORIA — A Queens performance and event space that offers classes for adults is taking its do-it-yourself attitude outdoors this summer, with the opening of a new backyard and patio space that'll kick off with a class on composting.

Q.E.D.- A Place to Show and Tell, which opened last November in Astoria and hosts a medley of events, from comedy shows to crochet classes, has a new backyard with seating where they plan to offer outdoor-themed workshops and activities like gardening and horseshoes, according to owner Kambri Crews.

"Outdoor space is such a luxury in New York City," Crews, a writer and storyteller, said in a statement. "We're thrilled we have a patio to add to the neighborhood. We want people to come hang out for shows and classes but also to just drink and relax. Our backyard is your backyard."

The first class in the new outdoor area will take place July 25 and will be a workshop on composting for the space-deprived New Yorker, where participants will learn how to compost their food scraps in a "neat, discreet bucket," according to Q.E.D.

The $12 class will be taught by Rebecca Louie, the author of "Compost City: Practical Composting Know-How for Small-Space Living," and will cover different techniques, like worm composting and bokashi fermentation. The cost of the class includes a composting bucket that attendees will get to keep.

Q.E.D. is located at 27-16 23rd Ave. in Astoria. "Composting Bucket Bootcamp" will take place Sunday, July 23 at 12 p.m. The class costs $12; tickets can be purchased here.
