UPPER EAST SIDE — A man in a baseball cap made off with thousands of dollars worth of fine jewelry from two apartments on the Fourth of July, according to the NYPD.

The suspect made his way into three apartments in a building on East 86th Street at roughly 4 p.m., while residents were away during the holiday, and snatched $112,000 worth of gold jewelry and gems, police said.

One resident told police that 22 items of gold, diamond, opal, amethyst and tourmaline jewelry worth a total of $24,725 were taken.

Another said that 19 pieces, including tennis bracelets, diamond rings and other gold and diamond jewelry, valued at $87,400 total, were swiped.

A third resident, who had a security camera in the bedroom, said nothing was taken, but the camera captured the suspect rummaging around and then looking straight into the lens.

There were no signs of forced entry in any of the burglaries, police said. It wasn't immediately clear how he got into the apartments.

Anyone with information in regards to any of these incidents is asked to call the NYPD's Crime Stoppers Hotline at 800-577-TIPS. The public can also submit their tips by logging onto the Crime Stoppers website or texting their tips to 274637(CRIMES) then enter TIP577.
