PARK SLOPE — Brooklyn Flea will soon shut down its outdoor market in front of P.S. 321, school leaders told DNAinfo New York.

The popular outdoor market will close up shop after Columbus Day weekend, a source familiar with the matter said.

Brooklyn Flea took over the space in front of P.S. 321 on Seventh Avenue and Second Street in 2013 through a contract administered by the Department of Education.

The market set up shop on the school's playground on weekends and sells a curated selection of handmade and vintage goods.

Aside from providing shoppers with unique finds, the market is an important revenue generator for P.S. 321's PTA, which uses money from the market's rental fees to fund the well-regarded school's art and music enrichment programs.

P.S. 321 PTA communications officer Emma Murphy said the market provides a "vibrant dimension" to Park Slope and that the school looks forward to a new tenant taking over the space.

The school isn't involved in selecting tenants for the space, that's up to the DOE, Murphy said.

"This is only the second time in over 20 years that the flea contract at 321 has become available," Murphy said in an email.

"We see the opening as a prime opportunity for another organization to take over the contract and curate an eclectic mix of weekend flea market vendors that will speak to Park Slope and our surrounding neighborhoods.”

Representatives for Brooklyn Flea did not respond to requests for comment.

First known for its sprawling markets in Fort Greene and Williamsburg, Brooklyn Flea now runs sites in Coney Island, Brooklyn Bridge Park, and Crown Heights.
