MANHATTAN — Trading on the New York Stock Exchange was halted Wednesday because of an “internal technical issue,” according to a tweet by the exchange.
(2 of 3) We chose to suspend trading on NYSE to avoid problems arising from our technical issue.

The exchange went down a little after 11:30 a.m. without warning. The exchange then released a statement at about noon saying they were experiencing “technical issues.”
Other exchanges, including Nasdaq, remained open.
The NYSE Arca and options exchanges were also unaffected, according to the NYSE website.
The shutdown was not the result of a "cyber breach," the NYSE also tweeted.
Trading was expected to resume a little after 3 p.m.
