CHELSEA — Three Potbelly locations in New York are selling a special milkshake to benefit Chelsea's LGBT community health center, Callen-Lorde.

The sandwich shops will donate 50 cents to the clinic from the sale of each Chocolate Callen Loreo, a cookies-and-cream flavored milkshake, according to Sam deWeil, the general manager at Potbelly's Reade Street location and the fundraiser's organizer. The milkshake sells for $4.08.

"We were doing fundraising and I know they function mostly on donations," said deWeil, adding that she gets her own medical care from the facility. "They are so welcoming, they put people at ease."

DeWeil wanted to support Callen-Lorde because of the work they do with LGBT youth in poverty.

"They work a lot with youth, homeless youth, they work on a sliding scale and they're wonderful people," she said.

The milkshake fundraiser will help Callen-Lorde provide services to those who can't pay for medical care. “We’re always so grateful when a patient has had a positive experience and wants to pay it forward," said Caitlin Quigley, the clinic's development manager. "All of our services are provided regardless of ability to pay, so every little bit helps."

The Callen Loreo is available at the Potbelly shops at Broadway and Reade; 14th and 6th; and 17th and Broadway through Aug. 2, according to their website.
