WILLIAMSBURG — A man ordered a meatball sub from a Subway sandwich shop before pulling out a gun and robbing the eatery of $1,000, police said.
The gunman, who police described as about 40 years old, walked into the shop at 747 Flushing Ave. on Sunday, June 28, at about 8 p.m. and ordered a 6-inch meatball sub, according to police and Subway employees.
At the register, the man handed over a $5 to pay for the $4.34 sandwich, said employee Habib Rahman, who translated for the worker who was there at the time, Abul Kashem.
When Kashem opened the register, the man pulled out a black firearm from his waist, pointed it at Kashem's chest and demanded cash, police and the employees said.
The gunman then jumped over the counter, took $1,000 from the register and ordered Kashem to go into the bathroom, police said.
Kashem and Rahman also said the man tried to break into a safe, but Kashem told him he didn't have a key, they said. He fled the location shortly after, police said.
The man was described as standing about 5-foot-5 and weighing 140 pounds, police said. He was wearing black jeans, a black shirt and a black do-rag, police said.
No arrests have been made.
