QUEENS — A pizzeria that has been a Forest Hills fixture for nearly three decades closed its doors last week.

Uno Pizzeria and Grill, at 107-16 70th Road, has served Chicago-style deep dish pizza on Forest Hills' “Restaurant Row,” between Austin Street and Queens Boulevard, for 28 years, sources said.

The eatery was part of a chain that started in Chicago in 1943, according to its website.

The restaurant owners declined to comment but a note placed on the door read, "We've enjoyed being a part of this wonderful community and will truly miss the friendships and partnerships we've made."

The note also said that the restaurant's "legendary deep dish" can still be found at two other Uno's locations in Queens — in Astoria and Bayside.

In December 2013, Santa Fe, a steakhouse located on the same block, also closed after decades in business. That storefront has been vacant since.

Several other stores and eateries have recently shut down or are about to close in the area, which has become known for its high commercial rents, including Strawberry, a popular teen clothing retailer on Austin Street, and Sizzler on Metropolitan Avenue.
