CHELSEA — With two shootings already this year, Midtown and Chelsea have already surpassed last year's tally of one for the area.

In 2014, the 10th Precinct, which represents Chelsea and Hell's Kitchen saw one shooting, and the Midtown North Precinct had none. Each precinct has had one shooting so far this year.

The number of shooting victims citywide is up 10 percent so far this year, compared to the same period in 2014, according to a DNAinfo New York analysis of NYPD data.

The two incidents in the neighborhood were unrelated.

In February, a 23-year-old man was shot in the stomach near the Fulton Houses.

Twenty-seven-year-old Raymond Alexander was apprehended for the crime the next day and charged with attempted murder and criminal possession of a weapon, NYPD said. The victim survived, according to police.

Alexander is being held at Rikers Island and could not be reached for comment.

On June 13, a man's legal gun went off seemingly accidentally in his pants in the lobby of the Waldorf Astoria, injuring four people, police said.
