STAPLETON — A teen was arrested Friday for shooting a man several times during a robbery on a Stapleton street, prosecutors said.

Destin Burks, 17, and another unapprehended suspect approached a 29-year-old man and his friend who were sitting on a Sands Street stoop on June 17 at about 5:10 a.m., prosecutors said.

Burks pulled out a gun and demanded money while the other suspect searched through the victims' pockets, prosecutors said.

The victim grabbed for the gun because he didn't believe it was real and it went off during the scuffle, grazing the man on the head, the Staten Island Advance reported.

Burks fired more shots, hitting the victim in the right hip and inner thigh, before he ran off with the other suspect, the Advance reported.

The victim was taken to Richmond University Medical Center in stable condition, the Advance reported.

Burks was arrested on Friday for the shooting and charged with attempted murder, robbery and criminal possession of a weapon at his Saturday arraignment, according to the Staten Island District Attorney's office.

His bail was set at $250,000 bond and he's due back in court on July 10, according to online court records.

His lawyer did not respond to a request for comment.
