LOWER EAST SIDE — A man stole cash and a phone from a 44-year-old woman’s home after they got into a scuffle Monday afternoon, police said.

The man — who was about 50 years old, wearing a white do-rag and appeared to be drunk — entered the woman’s apartment at 530 Grand St. at about 4:40 p.m. after she left her front door unlocked to let an acquaintance inside for a tutoring job, police said.

“I need money,” the man said, according to the NYPD.

Police said the woman tried to push the man out of her home, and then tried to use her cordless landline VTech phone to call 911 but the man grabbed the headset and yelled, “I need money” again.

The woman then gave the man $30 and he fled northbound with the cash and the phone on Grand Street towards Columbia Street.

Police described the suspect as a 5-foot-9 man, who's approximately 40 to 50 years old with brown eyes and brown hair.
