MANHATTAN — A man hung out the window of his moving car in the Holland Tunnel and hacked away at another vehicle with a machete Wednesday, police said.

Joel Estevez, 29, was arrested Thursday on charges of assault, criminal mischief and weapons possession, according to a Port Authority Police spokesman.

Estevez was driving a 2013 Honda stationwagon when he got into an argument with a 49-year-old man in a 2013 Toyota near Varick and Broome streets approaching the tunnel about 10:15 p.m., police said.

They continued into the tunnel where Estevez leaned out of his window and struck the other driver's car with the heavy blade, causing damage, police said.

The other driver called Port Authority Police while trailing Estevez onto the Pulaski Skyway in New Jersey, but lost track of him, police said.

The driver gave Estevez' license number to investigators who tracked it to a relative and then to his Brooklyn home on Thursday night, Port Authority Police said.

He was being held on Rikers Island and is due back in court Monday, jail records show.

Estevez was arrested in December 2013 for forcible touching and acting in a manner injurious to a child below the age of 17, according to court records. That case is ongoing.
