CROWN HEIGHTS — A new spot for hot, steamy buns opened this weekend on Franklin Avenue.

The Korean fusion eatery Bunsmith took over Docklands’ former storefront at 789 Franklin Ave. between Lincoln and St. Johns places on Friday, its owners said, serving up steamed buns and sides like edamame and kimchi.

The new restaurant is open for dinner seven days a week from 5 p.m. to midnight. Its buns cost $5 to $7 each and are filled with classic pork belly, Korean fried chicken, grilled artichoke, steak, tofu with shiitake mushrooms or freshwater eel. Bunsmith also serves three different sides for $5: smoked paprika-flavored French fries, kimchi and edamame covered in pork fat.

The menu also includes beer, wine and Korean spirits. Bunsmith is the creation of David Moon, the manager of Spitzer’s Corner on the Lower East Side. Moon applied for a full liquor license for the restaurant in April and was granted a temporary license as of June 16th, according to the State Liquor Authority.

The space is decorated with dark paneling, wood and black walls, one of which features a mural of the rapper Notorious B.I.G. wearing a "Bunsmith" crown, the late Apple C.E.O Steve Jobs with chopsticks in his hand and the sushi master Jiro Ono, all dreaming of steamed buns.
