BEDFORD-STUYVESANT — Police are searching for a man suspected of beating and raping a woman in the stairwell of her Bed-Stuy apartment building.

The suspect followed the 24-year-old into the lobby of her home near Tompkins Avenue and Hart Street around 5 a.m. on June 14, officials said.

He punched her in the face and head, then banged her head against the wall before raping her in the building’s stairwell, according to police.

The man chased the victim into her apartment before fleeing.

The woman was taken to an area hospital where she was treated for bruises on her face and body, police said.

Surveillance video of the suspect released Friday shows a man wearing blue jeans and a black baseball hat. He is described as 25 to 35-years-old, approximately 5-foot-9 and weighing around 150 pounds.

Anyone with information regarding this incident should call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS or submit tips on their website.
