WEST VILLAGE — The commanding officer of the 6th Precinct will retire next week, after 25 years with the NYPD.

Deputy Inspector Elisa Cokkinos spent a little over two years leading the police force in Greenwich Village, after three years at the helm of Chelsea's 10th Precinct.

"You know, you kick it around for a while, and then you decide, it's time," Cokkinos said at the precinct stationhouse on Tuesday.

Cokkinos also headed PSA 6, which covers 18 public housing developments in the 24th Precinct on the Upper West Side, the 26th Precinct in Morningside Heights, and the 32nd Precinct in Harlem.

She started at the 6th Precinct shortly after the anti-gay shooting of Mark Carson on Eighth Street in May of 2013. The trial of Carson's accused killer, Elliot Morales, has not yet begun.

Cokkinos has supervised the Village police force through several high-profile incidents since then, from the overdose death of Philip Seymour Hoffman in his apartment on Bethune Street to the shootout involving two U.S. Marshals and an NYPD detective in a head shop on West Fourth Street.

Cokkinos said she has no specific post-retirement plans beyond spending time with her family and upping her golf game.

"My guys got me four rounds at a country club," Cokkinos said, smiling at her officers.

Cokkinos said her last day is next Wednesday. The NYPD said a replacement for Cokkinos has not yet been chosen.
