INWOOD — A man was killed and another seriously injured when they ran into the middle of an Inwood street Tuesday night and were hit by a Ford SUV that braked but wasn't able to stop in time, police said.
The men, 24 and 35, ran into the street midblock on West 207th Street between Ninth and 10th avenues about 10:10 p.m., NYPD officials said.
The driver behind the wheel of a westbound 1999 Ford Explorer hit the brakes, but couldn't stop in time and hit the two men, knocking them into the path of an eastbound 2004 Toyota sedan, police said.
That car's driver's side tires ran over the 24-year-old, police said. He was pronounced dead at St. Barnabas Hospital, police said.
The car's driver's side bumper hit the 35-year-old, police said. He was treated at the same hospital where he was listed in serious condition, police said.
The drivers stayed on the scene and there were no immediate arrests, police said.
