WESTERLEIGH — Community Board 1 elected former treasurer Nicholas Siclari as its new head of the board Tuesday night.

Siclari defeated Priscilla Marco, who was elected as chair in a special election in March, in a 23-16 vote at the end of its full board meeting.

During the meeting, Siclari said he would focus on improving traffic and protecting the North Shore from "unscrupulous" developers.

"We must focus our attention on proper zoning that will allow for development that keeps in character with our neighborhoods," Siclari said.

Siclari, who's been on the board for eight years, also said he would try and keep meetings from running over time — the past two meeting ran until 10:30 p.m.

"As volunteers, our time should be respected," said Siclari.

Aside from the board, Siclari, a lifelong North Shore resident, works as a foreman for Forest Electric at ATT Web-Hosting Data Center in Manhattan and serves as vice president of the Staten Island Electrical Club, according to his online biography.

At its Tuesday meeting, the board also re-elected Anthony Cosentino as first-vice chair, narrowly beating out Camille Zarrelli in a 20-19 vote.
