PARK SLOPE — A client at a shelter for women battling mental health and addiction problems was arrested after hitting another woman with a broomstick, according to police.

The 43-year-old resident got into a fight with a 29-year-old woman inside the Park Slope Women's Shelter, on Eighth Avenue and 15th Street, and whacked the victim with a broom at about 6 p.m. on May 30, police said.

The attack left the victim bruised and fearful of another attack, according to a criminal complaint filed by the Brooklyn District Attorney's office.

The suspect was arraigned on charges of with misdemeanor assault, criminal possession of a weapon, menacing and harassment, according to the complaint. She was released without bail and is due back in court July 30, court records show.

Her attorney could not immediately be reached for comment on Thursday.

A spokeswoman for the nonprofit CAMBA, which runs the shelter under a contract with the Department of Homeless Services, declined to comment.

The Park Slope Women's shelter is located inside the massive Park Slope Armory, which also houses a YMCA branch. It expanded from 75 beds to 100 beds in 2013 as the city's homeless population swelled.
