NOHO — Police are questioning a man in connection with an attack on a transgender woman who was pushed onto subway tracks earlier this week.

A 30-year-old homeless man was taken into custody Thursday night. He is being questioned about a June 1 incident in which a woman was pushed onto the subway tracks at the Bleecker Street stop on the 6 line after he threw a plastic bottle at her, an NYPD spokesman said.

The NYPD’s Hate Crime Task Force began looking into the incident after the 28-year-old victim told authorities she was transgender, according to police sources.

Police said the suspect — dressed in a light blue shirt and khakis, according to the a video released by the NYPD — approached the woman at the Bleecker Street stop around 9 a.m. and asked her “What are you looking at?”

He then ran up to a trash can, pulled out an empty plastic bottle and threw it at the woman before shoving her onto the tracks, police said. Good Samaritans pulled the woman back onto the platform, according to the NYPD.

She was treated at Bellevue Hospital.
