NEW BRIGHTON — A man found hit by a baseball bat in January died last month and police reclassified the case as a homicide on Thursday.
On Jan. 10, police found Kashaan Blue, 30, unconscious with trauma to his head inside his Brighton Avenue home at about 11 p.m., the NYPD said.
Blue was transported to Richmond University Medical Center in critical condition and Blue died at the hospital on May 18, police said.
In January, family members told the Staten Island Advance that Blue was arguing with a female friend outside of his home when a third person came up behind him and hit him with a baseball bat.
"He said he thought it was a rock. It never occurred to him that it was a bat or a stick," Blue's mother told the paper. "I said, 'You should go to the doctor, not to sleep, because you have a concussion.'"
Police have not made any arrests in the case and an investigation is still ongoing.
