QUEENS — Jamaica is where hip hop and fashion will meet this weekend.

Rapper Ed Lover will host the annual Jamaica Collections on Saturday, an evening event organized by the Jamaica Center Business Improvement District to promote the neighborhood as a fashion destination.

“Jamaica is the most vibrant fashion district in New York,” said Rhonda Binda, executive director of the BID. “There are very few places that have the shopping experience that we have.”

The event held at the Jamaica Performing Arts Center will showcase fashion designers like Onyx Noir and Gamakache Black. Local clothing stores from Jamaica Avenue will also show off their latest styles.

The show will be held partially outdoors this year, and there will also be "an actual model shoot going on on the lawn of JPAC so people can get that experience," Binda said.

Lover, whose real name is James Roberts, used to emcee Yo! MTV Raps and currently hosts "The Ed Lover Show" on the hip hop radio station BackSpin.

Because Lover grew up in Hollis and knows the area very well, he'll "spice [the show] up," Binda said.

“This has always been about fashion,” Binda said about the event, which she said has been attracting hundreds of attendees every year.

“But there is such a great intersection with urban fashion, entertainment and hip hop,” she continued.

The event will be held on Saturday, June 6, from 7 to 10 p.m. at the Jamaica Performing Arts Center at 153-10 Jamaica Ave. Tickets are $25. For more information go here.
