NEW BRIGHTON — An ex-con was caught with heroin after police saw him on a Staten Island street with a stun gun, prosecutors said.

Police saw James McNair, 35, a convicted rapist, holding a stun gun in his hand at the corner of Henderson and Campbell avenues at about 9:50 p.m. on Friday, prosecutors said.

When police stopped McNair, they found 37 glassines of heroin inside his left sock, prosecutors said.

McNair pleaded guilty to rape in 2002. He also served three years in prison in 2009 after his two pitbulls fatally malled a 90-year-old World War II veteran in his Port Richmond backyard, the Staten Island Advance reported.

McNair was charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance and criminal possession of a weapon at his Saturday arraignment for the latest arrest, according to the Staten Island District Attorney's office. His bail was set at $10,000 and he's due back in court on June 10, according to online court records.

His lawyer did not respond to a request for comment.
