Rains and Flood Warning Continue Into Tuesday, Forecasters Say

NEW YORK CITY — Forecasters extended a flash flood watch through Tuesday evening as heavy rain was expected to continue pummeling the city, according to the National Weather Service.

"We’ll be wet basically through Tuesday late in the day," said NWS spokeswoman Faye Barthold.

Although only about two inches of rain fell in Central Park, flooding was reported in Fresh Meadows and Hillside in Queens and Annadale and Tottenville in Staten Island during Sunday night's downpours, Barthold said.

Rains were expected to intermittently hit the city through Tuesday night, she added.

"There are now some showers over northern New Jersey that should push through in the next couple hours," Barthold said Monday morning.

"We are expecting possibly a brief lull in late morning early afternoon before another round of showers moves through."

An eastward cold front is slowly moving through the area, which is creating small patches of lower pressure and rain along its boundery, forecasters said.

"Until that boundry moves out of the area we can anticipate more of the same," Barthold said.
