THE BRONX — A man's face and skull were fractured when he was beaten unconscious by four men with a baseball bat in High Bridge Saturday morning, police officials said.

The four men beat the 47-year-old Mali immigrant, kicking him and beating him with the bat in front of 1575 Townsend Ave., near East Mount Eden Avenue, about 3:40 a.m., NYPD Chief of Detectives Robert Boyce said at a press conference Monday afternoon.

A pair of EMS workers happened to walk by while the attack was going on and intervened, stopping the beating and then aiding the victim, Boyce added.

The attackers were seen running into 1562 Townsend Ave., according to Boyce.

He was listed in critical condition at an area hospital and is likely to die, police said.

It was not immediately clear who attacked him or why, police said. There were no arrests as of Monday morning.

Investigators released surveillance footage of three men they would like to question about the attack.

Anyone with information should contact Crime Stoppers at (800) 577-TIPS (8477).
