Man Slapped in Face for Trying to Stop Man from Swiping Tip Jar, Police Say

GREENPOINT — A man who tried to stop someone from taking a tip jar ended up getting shoved and slapped in the face, police said.

The victim, a 41-year-old man, was in a business on Manhattan Avenue between India Street and Huron Street on Wednesday, May 20 at roughly 9:15 a.m. when a man took a tip jar with $15 inside, police said.

The victim tried to stop the man from taking the jar, but the man shoved him and slapped him in the face, leaving him with a scratch on his arm, police said.

It was unclear whether the victim was an employee of the business. No one has been arrested for the robbery.

Other notable incidents in the 94th Precinct include:

► A man with $170 in unpaid tickets returned to his car to find it gone, police said.

The man, 30, legally parked his 2013 Volkswagen Tiguan on Sutton Street near Meeker Avenue on Wednesday, May 20 at about noon, police said.

When he returned at roughly 6:30 p.m., the car had vanished, police said.

No broken glass was found at the scene.

The man said he owes $170 in parking tickets, but the financial lender said they did not repossess the car due to the unpaid tickets, police said.

► A woman who parked her car near the Brooklyn-Queens Expressway returned to find her window smashed and several electronics gone, police said.

The woman, 24, said she parked near Union and Meeker avenues on Friday, May 22 at approximately 5 p.m., police said.

When she returned at about 10:30 p.m., the passenger side of her front windows were broken, police said.

A MacBook Pro, a tablet and a computer were gone, police said.

No one has been arrested for the incident.
