THE BRONX — A man was arrested for grabbing a woman by the neck and trying to rape her in the stairwell of a Melrose apartment building, police said.
Rudell Caldwell, 30, who can be seen in video released by police, followed a woman into a building near Wales Avenue and East 151st Street and up a stairwell about 9:35 a.m. on May 12, NYPD officials said.
There, he grabbed her by the neck and told her to remove her pants, police said.
She fought back and he fled the scene, police said.
Investigators canvassed the neighborhood and people identified Caldwell, an NYPD spokesman said.
Officers arrested him at his home in Mott Haven Monday about 11:45 p.m., the spokesman said.
He faces charges of attempted rape and unlawful imprisonment, police said.
