BEDFORD-STUYVESANT — How many kolaches can you scarf down in 10 minutes?

Brooklyn Kolache Co., a Bed-Stuy café that sells the Texas-style Czech pastries, is hosting a kolache eating contest on May 16 to celebrate its three-year anniversary.

The local coffee shop serves up the treats with fruity, house-made fillings or savory stuffings like mushroom and goat cheese, smoked ham and cheddar, or spinach and feta.

Brooklyn Kolache won the top dessert spot title in DNAinfo’s Brooklyn Brackets in April.

The weekend celebration will also feature live music from HoneyChrome, local art, snacks and the chance to take home the title of New York State Kolache King or Queen.

“I’m confident in saying that this is going to be the first kolache eating contest in New York,” said owner Autumn Stanford.

Competitors will have 10 minutes to consume as many sausage or sausage and cheese kolaches as they can, she said.

“I don’t think you can eat more than seven,” Stanford said. “Someone told me they think they can do 20, but I doubt it.”

The world record holder for kolache eating is competitive eater Joey Chestnut, who ate 56 sausage and cheese pastries in eight minutes at a 2007 Houston, Texas event, according to Major League Eating.

Brooklyn Kolache’s champion will win a $50 dollar gift card from the café, as well as the total earnings from the contest's entry fees.

“It’s going to be a fun way for us to say thank you to our customers and staff, and just enjoy the weather,” Stanford said.

Doors open for the free anniversary festivities on May 16 at 4 p.m., 520 DeKalb Ave. Contest participants must purchase a $10 ticket online to compete.
