SOHO — A woman was hit with falling debris on one of SoHo's busiest shopping corridors Friday afternoon, witnesses and fire officials said.

The woman was in front of a Zara store at 580 Broadway near Prince Street at approximately 1 p.m. when something fell from above and knocked her to the ground, officials and witnesses said.

Witnesses said the woman was lying face up and was bleeding from her forehead, but was conscious.

"There was a lot of blood on the floor. Her hair was full of blood also," said Tyannie Adams, who works at Zara. The clothing store was shut down for about 20 minutes as emergency workers responded to the scene, employees said.

The victim was taken to Bellevue Hospital with trauma, according to the FDNY.

Animal New York, which has offices near where the incident took place, reported that the woman appeared to have been struck by a piece of wood.

"It appears that something that hit her had fallen from the window," said Steve Cytryn, who works in a realty office nearby.

A Department of Buildings spokesman said they were not asked to respond to the scene and referred questions to the NYPD.
