BROOKLYN — A straphanger waiting on the J train platform at the Chauncey Street station was stabbed in the back of the neck and head Saturday morning — and could end up paralyzed, police said.

The 22-year-old victim, whose name was not immediately released, was standing on the Manhattan-bound platform for the J train about 8:50 a.m. when a man came up to him, threatened to kill him and then stabbed him, NYPD officials said.

The victim was listed in stable condition at an area hospital, but may be left paralyzed as a result of the attack, an NYPD spokeswoman said.

The suspect fled the scene and had not been arrested as of Thursday morning, police said.

The suspect, who can be seen in video released by police, wore a green baseball cap, white jeans with a dark blue jacket emblazoned with "Azteca" emblazoned across the back, police said.

He was described as standing about 5 feet 7 inches and weighing 165 pounds, police said.

Anyone with information should contact Crime Stoppers at (800) 577-TIPS (8477).
