Man Shot in Parked Car in Washington Heights, Police Say

WASHINGTON HEIGHTS — A 21-year-old man was shot in the arm while parked in a car on West 177th Street early Sunday morning, police said.

The victim was sitting in the driver’s side of a 2000 Honda parked in front of 583 W. 177th St. around 2:30 a.m., when a suspect approached the car and fired three times, hitting the victim once in his right wrist, police said.

The suspect fled the scene on foot, running west on 177th Street before turning south onto St. Nicholas Avenue, police added. Surveillance video captured him running away.

The victim was taken to New York Presbyterian Hospital in stable condition, police said.

The shooting occurred directly across the street from a public elementary school.

Police described the suspect as a man standing 5-foot-5 with a long, bushy ponytail. He was wearing a baseball cap at the time.

The motivation for the shooting was unclear, police added.
