QUEENS — Forest Hills has been attracting some of the biggest rock bands of all time, from The Replacements to The Who, scheduled to perform on May 30.

Now, chamber music fans will also get a treat, as the Grammy-winning Kronos Quartet, known for its diverse repertoire, is coming to perform at The Church-in-the-Gardens next week, the organizers said.

The quartet will perform on May 13 as part of the Queens New Music Festival and will be accompanied by a group of 12 student musicians Kronos has been mentoring from Face the Music, a youth ensemble based at the Kaufman Music Center.

The two groups will present the program called Road Trip, a '“guided tour” through some of Kronos’ most significant pieces," the organizers said in a statement.

The concert will feature “Sunrise of the Planetary Dream Collector” by Terry Riley, “Quartet no. 5” by Philip Glass,
Michael Daugherty's "Elvis Everywhere" and "
Quartet No. 8" by Peter Sculthorpe.

Program highlights will also include the world premiere of "All in One" by Danish composer Pelle Gudmundsen-Holmgreen, the organizers said.

"We were lucky to be able to book Kronos and Face the Music,” said Dan Olson of Musica Reginae Productions, which collaborated with The Queens New Music Festival on the event.

Olson noted that the local music scene has been evolving.

“It's not such a crazy thought to have a superstars like Kronos play in Forest Hills,” he said adding that the neighborhood has already attracted a number of famous bands. “Why not include the giants of chamber music?”

The concert will be held at The Church-in-the-Gardens at 50 Ascan Ave. in Forest Hills on Wednesday, May 13, at 7:30 p.m. Tickets: $25 adults and seniors / $15 students. Tickets must be purchased in advance. For more information and to purchase tickets go here.
