THE BRONX — A Bronx mother who told police a group of bat-wielding men attacked her two-month-old son only to later admit to dropping the baby on his head was charged with filing a false report, an NYPD spokeswoman said Thursday.

Daphane Sanders, 22, originally told emergency responders that two men attacked her son at the corner of Noble and Story avenues early Tuesday morning.

The baby was transported to Jacobi Hospital with trauma to his head and is in stable condition.

Sanders, who lives on Crotona Parkway near Hornaday Place, later admitted to making up the story for fear of getting in trouble with the Administration for Child Services, according to police.

Sanders was given a desk appearance ticket and officials are still investigating, a spokeswoman for the Bronx District Attorney’s Office said.

An ACS spokesman said they could not confirm whether the mother or child had any previous history with the agency because of privacy laws.

"We are deeply saddened by this tragic incident and are actively investigating the circumstances surrounding this case," ACS said in a statement.
