BEDFORD-STUYVESANT — Two men were arrested Tuesday night after crashing their car during a police chase and injuring a driver in the process, officials said.

The chase started when police tried to pull the pair over on Marcus Garvey Boulevard at roughly 8:30 p.m., and instead of stopping, the driver took off "driving recklessly and at excessive speed," an NYPD spokesman said.

It was unclear why police initially tried to stop them.

The suspects, Charles Thomas, 27, and Jamal Mays, 21, sped through two red lights, disregarded pedestrians on crosswalks and crashed into a car at the intersection of Marcus Garvey and Jefferson Avenue, police said. The impact caused minor injury to the other driver.

The pair kept going, striking two parked cars before finally coming to a stop. Police arrested one suspect immediately, while the other fled and was eventually nabbed at a nearby corner, officials said.

Khairul Shubha, owner of a bodega on the corner called Marcus Deli, said he saw a man run from police immediately after the incident.

“I heard a loud crash, it was huge, and it had everyone coming out of their houses,” Shubha said.

Thomas and Mays were charged with reckless endangerment, resisting arrest and leaving the scene of an accident.

Mays pleaded guilty to possession of a forged instrument in a separate March incident and he was previously arrested for identity theft, disorderly conduct, and obstructing traffic.

Attorney information for the men was not immediately available.
