UPPER WEST SIDE — A group of teens on bikes ganged up on a Central Park jogger, attacking him over the weekend in an attempt to rob him of his cellphone, police said.

The 29-year-old victim was jogging at 106th Street and West Drive on Sunday at 8:20 p.m. when he was confronted by nine young men on bikes demanding he hand over his iPhone 6, the NYPD said.

One of the teens got off his bike, walked over to the jogger and asked him what kind of phone he had. The rest of the suspects, who were between 12 and 17 years old, surrounded the victim, according to police.

One of the teens punched the jogger in the back and tried to grab him, but the victim managed run from the teenagers and escape unharmed, according to police.

The jogger also kept his iPhone, which he used to call the police after running out of the park on 110th street, according to authorities.

The NYPD said it hadn't received any other reports of a group of teenagers harassing other joggers.

The police attained surveillance photos from a building on Central Park West and asked anyone with information to call the NYPD's Crime Stoppers Hotline at 800-577-TIPS.
