LONG ISLAND CITY — Funk superstar George Clinton will perform for free in Queensbridge Park this summer — one of several local events on this year's SummerStage lineup which will also include the screening of a documentary about neighborhood rapper Nas.
George Clinton and Parliament Funkadelic will bring its funk and soul sounds to the park on July 15, according to an announcement from the City Parks Foundation which describes the group as "one of the most important forces in the recent history of black music."
The show is one of several planned for Queensbridge Park during this season's SummerStage festival, which is celebrating its 30th anniversary of bringing entertainment to green spaces across the city.
On July 19, the park will host a screening of the documentary "Nas: Time is Illmatic" which chronicles the life and music of the legendary rapper, who grew up in Queensbridge.
A show on July 16 will feature another Queensbridge name, hip-hop DJ Marley Marl, along with producer and rapper Large Professor.
