MANHATTAN — A coyote spotted in Riverside Park just after midnight Thursday managed to evade police — a day after another sighting in the same area, authorities said.

The animal was seen in the park in the West 70s after midnight, NYPD officials said, without providing an exact location or time. An NYPD spokeswoman did not know if the sighting was of the same coyote.

WHY ARE COYOTES COMING TO NEW YORK CITY?

Police responded to the scene Thursday, but were unable to apprehend the animal, the spokeswoman added. Officers were continuing to track the coyote as of Thursday morning, a source from the 20th Precinct said.

The Thursday sighting comes a day after police chased a coyote for hours before it gave officers the slip and "went deep into the shrubbery," said Capt. Marlon Larin, commanding officer of the 24th Precinct.
