QUEENS — The son of a Jamaica city councilman punched a man in the face and threatened to stab him at an intersection near JFK Airport on Friday, reports say.

Police spotted Coron Miller, the 31-year-old son of Councilman Daneek Miller, getting out of his car at 150th Avenue and 148th Street and approaching another car waiting at a red light at about 7 p.m., authorities said.

Miller was then seen punching the driver of the car in the face, and grabbing and ripping his shirt. "I will stab you," he told the driver, according to the criminal complaint.

It wasn't immediately clear what prompted the attack. The victim was alarmed and had substantial pain, according to the complaint.

The incident was first reported by the New York Daily News.

Coron Miller was charged with assault, criminal mischief, menacing, harassment and resisting arrest, authorities said.

A temporary order of protection was issued, and Miller was released.

The suspect has about a dozen prior arrests, including for assault and unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, some of them sealed, according to police. The results of those cases were not immediately available.

"Our understanding is that a dispute occured, but that is ultimately a private matter," a spokesman for Councilman Miller said.

His son's attorney did not immediately return a phone call seeking comment.
